OHT-N COVID-19 Virtual Forum (3)- February 25, 2021

With the rollout of COVID-19 vaccines underway for priority populations in Northumberland as part of Phase 1 of the provincial distribution plan, Ontario Health Team of Northumberland (OHT-N) partners hosted an interactive online session via Zoom on February 25, 2021 to answer the public’s vaccine-related questions.

How do the COVID-19 vaccines work? Are the vaccines safe? How long will immunization last? How are vaccines being distributed? When is rollout to the general population expected and how will this be coordinated locally? These questions and more were addressed during this event. 

Event overview

Moderated by Linda Davis, President and CEO of Northumberland Hills Hospital and spokesperson for the OHT-N, this forum included the following panelists from the local health care community:

  • Dr. Ian Gemmill, Acting Medical Officer of Health, Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit
  • Karen Peters, Pharmacist, Northumberland Family Health Team
  • Dr. Emma Smith, Primary Care Physician 

Panelists opened the forum with a brief overview of topics including:

  • How COVID-19 vaccines work in the body to combat the virus
  • The status of local vaccine rollout along with rough timelines for expanded distribution
  • The partnerships in place to ensure a coordinated approach to mass vaccination across Northumberland

The remainder of the event were dedicated to a question period, where attendees were invited to ask questions of the panelists as well as other OHT-N representatives.

Event Summary

COVID-19 has brought unprecedented change to daily life in Northumberland County. As the global pandemic continues to evolve, many have questions: What is the status of COVID-19 cases in Northumberland? How do I access COVID-19 assessment and testing? What practices are in place at long-term care homes to keep residents safe? What home and community supports are available to me? When is a vaccine expected and how will this be coordinated? 

To help answer these questions and more, the Ontario Health Team of Northumberland (OHT-N)—a partnership of local patients, caregivers, health and community care providers—hosted its second COVID-19 Virtual Forum on Thursday, December 10 from 7:00-8:00 p.m.

  • Community care sector - Trish Baird, Executive Director, Community Care Northumberland

OHT-N COVID-19 Virtual Forum (1)- May 13, 2020  

Event summary

In the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ontario Health Team of Northumberland (OHT-N) hosted an interactive virtual event to share information about how local health and community care partners were working together to respond to community needs, and to answer questions from Northumberland residents. This event took place on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
